Summary:

The three novellas of mystery and adventure in this volume developed during 1756 to 1758 on stage full of dark secrets - and dangers - to the hero soldier with his own secrets.
The first novella finds Lord John swearing vengeance in London by a government official killed, which leads to a devastated abbey where members of a political elite indulge their low pasions.
The second novella confronts Lord John with a succubus that lurks in the Prussian camp combines humor with military strategy and supernatural myths.
The third story, with a more complex narrative, finds Lord John investigating the cause of the explosion of a cannon and it kills a young officer

My opinion

say that fascinated me would be lying. Was not bad, but in the case of three stories was difficult to ask that all three were great.
